The Brooks Adrenaline GTS has long been a favorite for runners seeking stability, and the 19th version of this beloved shoe brings a fresh update aimed at reducing knee injuries. This new model introduces guide rails, replacing the previous medial post system, offering a more holistic approach to stability. While it’s still too early to measure the long-term effectiveness in preventing knee injuries, there are plenty of reasons to be excited about the latest Adrenaline GTS.

What’s New with the Adrenaline GTS 19?

Brooks made a bold move with the Adrenaline GTS 19 by replacing the Progressive Diagonal Rollbar, which had been in the shoe since 2003, with guide rails. This shift aims to provide more natural stability without the feeling of an intrusive medial post. Using a bowling analogy, the guide rails function like bumpers, keeping the foot aligned while minimizing stress on the knee. This design makes the shoe suitable for both pronators and neutral runners since the guide rails won’t interfere if your foot doesn’t need them.

Comfort and Cushioning

Despite being considered a heavier shoe by the lab, the Adrenaline GTS 19 feels surprisingly lightweight on runs. The cushioning is moderate, providing a soft ride that works well for larger runners without feeling too soft for lighter runners. During testing, the shoe provided excellent comfort on long runs, and we didn’t feel the usual fatigue or soreness that can accompany extended mileage. This balance of cushioning and responsiveness makes the Adrenaline GTS 19 a great choice for those tackling long-distance runs or marathon training.

Supportive Midsole for Long Runs

The midsole combines Brooks’ BioMoGo DNA foam with the new DNA Loft crash pad in the heel. DNA Loft is a blend of foam, air, and rubber, offering durability and long-lasting cushioning. The result is a firmer feel than its predecessor, but it’s still comfortable enough for a soft and supportive ride. The combination of BioMoGo and DNA Loft helps absorb impact while preventing fatigue over long distances, making it ideal for runners looking for that sweet spot of support without sacrificing comfort.

Durable Outsole for All Conditions

The Adrenaline GTS 19 excels in durability, particularly in wet and rainy conditions. Our wear tests were done during a particularly rainy fall in Pennsylvania, and the shoe held up excellently on wet pavement and slippery sidewalks. The outsole showed little to no wear throughout the testing period, proving its resilience and grip even in challenging conditions.

Design and Fit

The engineered mesh upper gives the shoe a sleek, fast look while also offering a comfortable, true-to-size fit. However, the shoe tends to absorb water during rainy runs, which some testers found to be a minor drawback. Despite this, it didn’t detract from the overall performance, and most testers felt the shoe’s fit and comfort outweighed this issue.

Wear Tester Feedback

Kristen R., who has been testing shoes since 2018, noted that the cushioning suited her high arch, providing comfort without feeling heavy. She mentioned that the shoe absorbed the hard road surfaces well, making her runs feel similar to treadmill surfaces, which she appreciated.

Diane L., who has high arches and is an overpronator, felt that the Adrenaline GTS 19 was lighter and more flexible without losing the necessary support for her pronation control. She highlighted that her feet didn’t feel fatigued after running on harder surfaces or rougher terrains.

Final Thoughts

The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 19 is a solid option for runners looking for stability and comfort. The introduction of guide rails is an exciting development that offers a more natural feel for runners who need support but don’t want the intrusive sensation of traditional stability features. Whether you’re training for a marathon or just tackling longer runs, the Adrenaline GTS 19 provides the cushioning and durability you need to stay comfortable while helping to minimize the risk of knee injuries.
